Relationship Education became compulsory to teach in September 2020 in all primary schools.
This was introduced to put in place the building blocks needed for positive and safe relationships of all kinds. It starts with family and friends , how we treat each other with kindness and recognising the difference between online and offline friendships.
Primary schools do not need to teach sex education but there is a strong recommendation of a sex education scheme of work for the older pupils. This has been in place previously with the school nurse visit to talk to the children about puberty and growing up. The content of the lessons are shared with the school and parents are informed beforehand as they will have the right to remove their child from these particular lessons.
The sex education which is taught as part of the science curriculum will be covered as normal.
The school use the Jigsaw scheme for PSHE which covers all the necessary elements of RSE.
If you have any questions about RSE please contact the school.
